A fire broke out on a picnic bus carrying students of Gazipur Oxford Model School and College at Sreepur upazila of Gazipur district on Thursday.
The fire started in a bus of Soukhin Express around 6:30pm on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Palli Bidyut Mor area when teachers and students of the institution were returning from the picnic spot, said witnesses.
All the teachers and students on the bus managed to disembark in time to escape without any major injuries, although ten of them did suffer minor burns while getting off the bus.
Officer-in-charge of Mauna Highway police station Kangkan Kumar Biswas and Inspector Abdul Mannan of Sreepur Fire Service said that after receiving the information, two units of the fire service managed to put out the fire after trying for half an hour.
No one was injured in the fire incident. However, the bus was completely gutted in the fire.
The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
Passengers who boarded the bus left the spot for their destination by alternative means.
