Border Guard Bangladesh detained a suspected gold smuggler along with 10 gold bars in Jadavpur border of Maheshpur upazila in Jhenaidah.
The arrestee is Abdul Hadi, 36, of Shalkona village at Sharsha upazila in Jessore district, confirmed 58 BGB Director Masud Parvez Rana in a press conference at 9:30pm on Thursday.
On Thursday afternoon, the patrol team of Maheshpur 58 BGB detained Abdul Hadi along with the gold bars when he arrived between Porapara wood market and Saiful Islam Degree College on the border of Jadavpur upazila.
The BGB director said that the gold seized from Hadi's possession weighed over 1kg and was worth around Tk92,47,976.
He also said that a case has been filed at Maheshpur police station against the accused who was detained for transporting and keeping in custody gold bars for smuggling to India by evading customs duty. The seized gold bars have been deposited in Jhenaidah treasury.
