State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Thursday said Bangladesh is targeting 40% of power generation from clean energy by 2041.
“The government is planning to generate 4,000MW of electricity from solar power by 2030. Renewable energy sources, such as wind, waste and hydropower, are also being utilized for power generation,” he said.
The state minister was speaking as the chief guest at the signing ceremony of a Country Partnership Agreement (CPA) between the Power Division and the International Solar Alliance (ISA) at the Intercontinental Hotel in the capital.

With the ISA's help, solar power projects will gain momentum, said the state minister, adding: "Pilot projects will succeed within the stipulated time. Net metering guidelines have been developed to encourage rooftop solar use. Initiatives to use solar power in agriculture are also being increased".
The agreement was signed by Power Division Secretary Md Habibur Rahman on behalf of the Power Division and Director General Dr Ajay Mathur on behalf of the International Solar Alliance.
