The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) has introduced Bangla and Literature Department.
As the first university in Bangladesh, ULAB is now set to teach ethnic minority languages.
Professor Shameem Reza made the announcement at the opening ceremony of the new department, titled “Prothom Agomoni Gaan” at the permanent campus of ULAB, located in Dhaka's Mohammadpur, on Thursday.
The professor mentioned apart from Bangla, there are 44 ethnic languages, and ULAB would be the first university, where ethnic languages will be taught,” he said.

Mentioning the founder of ULAB, Kazi Shahid Ahmed, Shameem Reza said: “He published ‘Ajker Kagoj' in the spirit of our Liberation War. Without him, we would not have this university. Today, ULAB is one of the best universities in the country. We are proud to introduce the Bangla department at this university.”
Selina Hossain, president of the Bangla Academy, Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Imran Rahman, vice-chancellor of ULAB, and Prof Shamsad Mortuza, professor and special advisor (Board of Trustees), Department of English and Humanities (DEH), among others, spoke on the occasion.
