Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandaker Golam Faruq said that there is no threat of terrorist attack on the occasion of International Mother Language Day on February 21.
He told journalists while discussing the overall security measures taken on the occasion of February 21 Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day at Jatiya Shaheed Minar on Sunday afternoon.
He said: “To ensure security we have covered the area from Palashi to Doel Chattar under CCTV surveillance. The entire area will be kept under surveillance through CCTV cameras from the police control room. We will have an archway through which people coming to Shaheed Minar will be searched.”
The commissioner also forbade people from going to Shaheed Minar with bags or belongings.
“At first, members of the council of ministers and diplomats along with the president and prime minister will pay tribute to the martyrs. It will then be opened to the general public. The general public will enter through Palashi and exit through Doel Chattar,” he mentioned.
The DMP commissioner said: “The president and prime minister will come to Shaheed Minar in an open environment following the Covid pandemic. People from all walks of life of the capital will come to Shaheed Minar. We have taken maximum security measures. The university administration is also supporting us.”
“Security will be beefed up from 3pm on February 20. Besides, police will be in charge of security in three groups. The security forces will work from 6pm on February 20 to 6am on 21 February, 6am to 6pm on 21 February, till next morning,” he added.
