A Rajshahi Metropolitan unit Chhatra League leader has been arrested on charges of abducting a young man who was visiting Rajshahi University (RU) and demanding extortion from him.
So far, four people have been arrested over the incident that took place on February 7.
Rajshahi metropolitan Chhatra League leader, Parvez Ali Hridoy, has been sent to jail on Saturday, said Motihar police station Officer-in-Charge Hafizur Rahman.
Parvez is also a follower of Sirajum Mubin Shabuj, general secretary of Rajshahi metropolitan unit Chhatra League.
In this regard, Sirajum said: "I have heard about Parvez's arrest. However, as far as I know, some students of Ruet (Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology) are involved in this incident. We need to know how Parvez got involved there. If he is the real criminal, action will be taken against him.”
On February 7, a student of Rajshahi's Institute of Health and Technology, Nazmul Nazrul, went to RU, and some students of Ruet allegedly abducted him.
He said he was beaten and the abductors demanded money from him. Later, police rescued Nazrul and detained three people.
Nazrul filed a case against the three Ruet students and two unidentified individuals.
