A clash, counter clash was reported between Awami League and BNP men in Gazipur's Sreepur upazila on Saturday.
Awami League men have been accused of attacking BNP leaders and activists, who were carrying out their march procession.
Meanwhile, BNP mn were accused of attacking the Awami League men at their central office.
During the attack, a BNP man, Jahidul Islam Jahid, was reportedly seen holding a gun, Sreepur police station Officer-in-Charge Md Moniruzzaman said.
The clashes took place at Sreepur's Barmi Bazar area at around 10:30am.
Secretary General of Sreepur upazila unit BNP Aktarul Alam and Education Affairs Secretary of Gazipur district unit BNP Masud Sarker said that the Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League men attacked the BNP's march procession.
Meanwhile, Sreepur upazila unit Awami League General Secretary Advocate Harun-or-Rashid Farid BNP's allegations against Awami League are not true. “BNP men pre-planned their attack on Awami League men at our central office.”
“No leader or activist of Awami League or affiliated organizations attacked BNP workers. If BNP creates anarchy in the name of a procession, it will be resisted,” he added.
