A delegation of the ruling Awami League, comprising former housing and public works secretary Md Shahid Ullah Khandaker and local leaders, has visited the Hindu houses that fell victim to a mob attack in Kotalipara of Gopalganj on Sunday.

Shahid Ullah told the local people that the government would take extensive security measures for the Hindus living in the area so that such incidents did not repeat.

“The Awami League government will remain beside them,” he added.

Kotalipara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ferdous Wahid accompanied the delegation during the visit.

A mob of around 400-500 people attacked the house of a Hindu youth, now living in India, allegedly for his Facebook post that demeans Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

They vandalized the house belonging to the extended family of the accused youth.

The incident took place in the upazila's Uttar Kandi village around 7pm on Sunday.

One of the family members told Dhaka Tribune that the accused youth had been living in India for the last seven years. His parents also left the country several months ago.
