Daily Swapna Bangla acting editor Kazi Tofail Ahmed has been elected as the new president of Sylhet Division Journalists' Association (SDJA), a Dhaka-based platform of journalists.
Shankar Maitra, director and news chief of Channel S, has been elected as the general secretary.
The full committee will be formed within the next 10 days, said a press release.
The new leadership was elected at the annual general meeting and first conference at a Dhaka hotel on Friday afternoon.
Jharna Moni, general secretary of the organization, conducted the program.
Later, commission members led by SDJA's Chief Election Commissioner Ekhteyar Uddin announced the new committe.
Since its inception in 2021, the organization has contributed to the overall development of its community through mutual relations, professional excellence, and professionalism.
A discussion, chaired by SDJA President Azizul Parvez, was held before the election. Poet and journalist Shamim Azad, editor of Bangladesh Pratidin Mustafiz Shafi, and Executive Editor of Dhaka Tribune Reaz Ahmad, among others, were present.
