The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday conducted a drive at the passport office in the capital's Agargaon as the commission received allegations of bribery for providing passport services to customers and harassment.

On Thursday, ACC Deputy Director (public relations) Muhammad Arif Sadeq told Dhaka Tribune that a team led by Assistant Director Jesmin Akhter and Shaon Hossain Anik raided the passport office.

Following the allegations, when the ACC officials were talking to customers in disguise, a number of brokers came to them and offered to complete their tasks in exchange for money.

When asked how they would do their work, the brokers indicated that they are linked up with some employees of the passport office.

During the drive, ACC officials also found that some brokes were working inside the passport office without maintaining any line or serial.

Later, the ACC team met the director and deputy director of the passport office and informed them about their observations. The passport officials acknowledged the allegations but also offered explanations to the commission.

ACC later suggested the passport officials take measures regarding the matter to curb irregularities and customer harassment.

The ACC enforcement team will submit the final report along with the necessary recommendations in this regard soon.
