Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) officials have protested a recent negative news report against the agency's chief, Taqsem A Khan, slamming them as false and fabricated.
The officials and employees of Wasa made the claim at an hourlong protest rally staged in front of Wasa Bhaban at Karwan Bazar in Dhaka on Thursday.
They said recently, the news published against Dhaka Wasa Managing Director Engineer Taqsem A Khan was personal. The officers and employees of Wasa are staging a protest rally, protesting the negative and ill-intentioned news about the institution, they added.
They said on January 9, a national daily published the news, titled “14 houses in US of Wasa'sTaqsem!” In this context, the officials and employees of all levels of Dhaka Wasa had an adverse reaction and they claimed that the published news was baseless, false, fabricated and motivated.
They also asked whether it is possible for one person to buy 14 houses in a country like the United States.
The protesting staff alleged that false propaganda is being carried out with the aim of destroying Dhaka Wasa through these activities.
“Dhaka Wasa, which was burdened with water-crisis debt and financial crisis, has turned into a self-reliant and sustainable Dhaka Wasa today under his leadership,” said the officials.
"All this is possible due to the leadership of Engineer Taqsem A Khan sir. Sir is an honest man. It is unethical to use his name in a fictional detective story. All officials and employees of Dhaka Wasa are requesting the media to refrain from publishing such reports,” one of them said.
Asked whether any kind of legal action will be taken by Wasa, Deputy Managing Director AKM Shahid Uddin told Bangla Tribune that the decision will be taken on further legal action after talking to the managing director and others concerned.
The managing director of the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa), Taqsem A Khan, on Tuesday said the media reports regarding his 14 homes in the US are inaccurate and that he has not earned a single taka by illegal means.
The High Court on Monday inquired about the status of the ACC's investigation into these accusations.
The ACC was ordered by the court to notify the public within 15 days.
