Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader left for Singapore on Monday morning for a routine health check-up.
According to the minister's office, Obaidul Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, left Dhaka on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight around 8:41am.
At this time, Obaidul Quader was greeted with flowers by Air Vice Marshal (AVM) M Mafidur Rahman, chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).
Barrister Biplab Barua, Nizam Uddin Hazari and others were present as well.
“He is expected to return to Dhaka on January 4 (Wednesday) after a health check-up at Mount Elizabeth Hospital,” said Shaikh Walid Faiej, information and public relations officer at Bridges Division.
The 72-year-old Awami League leader has been suffering from chronic heart and lung problems for a long time.
In 2019, three blockages were found in his coronary arteries.
