A Bangladeshi man was shot dead allegedly by Khasia people along the Bangladesh-India border in Companyganj upazila of Sylhet on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Jain Uddin, 18, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Utma camp Naik Subedar Rafiq confirmed.
According to locals, the incident took place at 4pm when a group of four people entered inside India to fetch wood along 1257 subpillar 5S of Utma border.
At that time, Khasia people spotted the group and opened fire. Jain Uddin lost his life on the spot while three others managed to run back to Bangladesh.
In the evening, they re-entered India and brought back Jain Uddin's body.
Naik Subedar Rafiq said that the people of the border areas are often warned and awareness meetings are held regularly. However, still they cannot be stopped.
Companyganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shukanto Chakraborty said that Zain Uddin's body has been sent to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet for autopsy.
