Argentina football fans in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country celebrated the South American nation's triumph over France in the World Cup final with festivity.
Thousands of people came out on the streets in the capital chanting "Messi, Messi" after Argentina won the breathtaking match in penalties.
Outside Dhaka, people defied chilly weather and brought out processions with flags wearing Argentina's sky-blue-and-white jerseys.
In Khulna, one supporter named Tushar Hossain said: “After the end of the Maradona era, Argentina's World Cup dream was in the freezer. Messi finally fulfilled his destiny of lifting the World Cup this time.”
Fans in Rajshahi shed tears of joy. Hundreds of football fanatics were seen on the streets holding different posters to cheer for the Latin American team.
One supporter named Abu Saeed said: “Argentina played better than we expected. After the loss in the first match, we were sure that Argentina would win the World Cup this time. And finally it happened!”
Following Argentina's triumph, a TikTok video went viral on social media where Argentines were seeking support from Bangladeshi fans before the final match in Qatar.
The video, taken before the match, showed Argentine fans in Qatar asking some Bangladeshis to pray for their team.
Meanwhile, the celebration was marred by the death of two fans in Comilla and Jessore on Sunday night.
A 12-year-old schoolboy, identified as Shaon Mia, was killed after being hit by a motorcycle while he was on his way to join a procession after Argentina won the World Cup.
The accident took place in Manoharganj area around midnight, reported Bangla Tribune.
At Jhikargacha of Jessore, a youth named Rakib Hossain died while cheering an Argentine goal after he fell on an under construction bridge on Sunday night, Officer-in-Charge of Jhikargacha police Suman Bhakta said.
