25 children die of pneumonia in MMCH

Doctors urge everyone to take proper preparation for winter to avoid getting sick

At least twenty-five children have died in cold-related health issues including pneumonia at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) in the last two days till 10am on Saturday.

A total of 623 children have been admitted till 10am on Saturday with most of them suffering from cold-related diseases.

Mymensingh Medical College Hospital Deputy Director Dr Waiz Uddin Faraji confirmed the information to Bangla Tribune.

He also said that all the children who died were suffering from respiratory problems and pneumonia, adding that all kinds of preparations including adequate medicines for the treatment of children were made.

Nazrul Islam, head doctor of the hospital's neonatal ward, said that the number of patients suffering from respiratory problems and pneumonia is high in the ward. The doctor fears that the number of patients may increase with the advancement of winter. 

He also said that doctors, nurses and other employees were active in treating new born babies.

Doctor Biswajit Chowdhury, assistant professor of children's ward, said that with the onset of winter, the number of children suffering from cold-related respiratory problems and pneumonia in the hospital ward has started to increase.

He said: "Wear winter clothes at home and parents should take extra care of children." 

He also said to consult a doctor immediately if cold and cough start.
