State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury has hoped that Bangladesh would be a rich country utilizing blue economy.
He expressed his optimism while addressing a discussion titled "Role of Sheikh Hasina in development of char region" arranged by Rangabali Upazila unit of Awami League and Rangabali Press Club at Char Montaz Manta Palli ground in Rangabali on Friday afternoon.
Patuakhali-4 constituency lawmaker Principal Mahibur Rahman, Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) former President Quddus Afrad and Rangabali Press Club President Shikder Zobayer Hossain also addressed it.
Upazila AL President Principal Delwar Hossain chaired the discussion moderated by Saifuzzaman Mamun.
Khalid said once Bangladesh had no rights in sea and it had to take permission from India and Myanmar to enter sea.
"Now Bangladesh under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership conquered sea," he said.
The landmass of Bangladesh is also increasing gradually as huge quantity of silts from rivers is accumulating in the Bay of Bengal forming new land, he said.
