A Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel who was injured during a drive against drug smugglers at Tombru border in Bandarban on Monday night, has been taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
The official, Sohel Barua, was was flown to Dhaka from Cox's Bazar sadar hospital around 2:30am on Tuesday.
Mohammad Ashiqur Rahman, resident medical officer (RMO) of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital said: “RAB member Sohel Barua, who sustained a serious head injury, was brought to the hospital's emergency department at around 9:45pm. He was bleeding.”
“The doctors continued to treat him as best they could. But as the bleeding did not stop, he was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment,” he added.
Sohel Barua is a member of RAB-15.
Meanwhile, a Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) officer was killed during the drive.
The martyred officer was a Bangladesh Air Force official, said a press release by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The shootout took place when the members of the DGFI and the RAB conducted a joint anti-drug drive in Tombru area.
