Awami League (AL) Advisory Council Member and 14-party alliance spokesperson Amir Hossain Amu on Saturday said Bangladesh has been faring much better than other countries, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on price of essential items amid the Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

"We are doing much better as a country comparing to other neighbouring countries in terms of facing the financial crisis particularly combating the impacts of the Russia-Ukraine war on the price of essential commodities. We will overcome the problems very soon under the leadership of our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," said Amir Hossain.

He was addressing a seminar on "Commitment to eliminate militancy and build a non-communal Bangladesh", organized by Aashiqeen-e-Awlia Oikya Parishad at Jatiya Press Club (JPC) on Saturday.

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossain addressed it as special guest with Shah Sufi Sayed Alam Noori Al Sureshwari in the chair.

"As per the article 12 of the constitution, all citizens of the country are enjoying full religious freedom. Religion cannot be used for political purposes. Every citizen is allowed to observe, practice and maintain religion as per his or her own choice," said Amu.

"Unfortunately, some people in the name of religion have tried to lead people to militancy, while the prime minister has eliminated militancy from the country with zero tolerance policy," he said.

Amu urged everyone, including the Sufi community, to be careful and remain vigilant against militant activities so that none can misguide the innocent people.
