BNP Executive Committee Member and former DNCC mayoral candidate Tabith Awal filed a petition to sue 16 people including the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Banani police station Noore Azam over an attack on him in September this year.
He filed the petition on Monday with Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court Judge Asaduzzaman under the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention) Act, 2013.
The court said it will take the statement of the plaintiff and give an order later, Tabith Awal's lawyer Barrister AKM Ehsanur Rahman confirmed the matter.
Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League Vice-President Kader Khan, it's former vice-president Jasim Uddin, former general secretary Mir Mosharraf Hossain and Joint General Secretary Amzad Hossain are among the accused.
BNP leader Tabith Awal was attacked by a group of unidentified youths while returning from a party program in the Banani area of Dhaka on September 17
He was admitted to United Hospital after suffering serious injuries in the attack..
