A leader of Chhatra Dal died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) early Friday, after becoming critically injured as a microbus hit him in Bhulta Gauchhia area under Rupganj in Narayanganj while he was fleeing an alleged attack by Jubo League leaders and activists.
The deceased is Md Amit Hasan, 22, son of Amir Hossain of Kanchan municipality under Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj. He was the vice president of the municipality's Ward 5 unit of Chhatra Dal.
Narayanganj BNP Convener (Acting) Monirul Islam Rabi told Bangla Tribune: "The body is kept in the hospital morgue. No case has yet been filed in this incident."
He added that on Thursday evening, Chhatra Dal leaders and activists brought out a procession carrying torches from Bhulta Chourasta protesting the arrest warrant for BNP Chairman (Acting) Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman. The procession ended at Munshiur pump area of Asian Highway and then the participants began to return home.
At that time, some Chhatra League and Jubo League activists attacked them. At one point, Amit was allegedly chased and pushed. He came under a microbus and was rescued in critical condition and admitted to DMCH where he died later, said former president of Narayanganj Chhatra Dal and Member Secretary of Narayanganj Jubo Dal Moshiur Rahman Roni.
Chhatra Dal sources said that many others were injured and sent to DMCH for treatment.
However, Rashed Bhuiyan, president of Rupganj Bhulta union Jubo League, denied the allegations.
