Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on Monday said Bangladesh will not face any food crisis unless there is any natural disaster.
He said warnings are issued from different organizations that food crisis may hit all over the world, but crops are produced in the country throughout the year. Some 4 crore tons of rice are produced annually in Bangladesh, he added.
The minister made the remarks at a views exchange over food security in Barisal Circuit House, said a handout of the Press Information Department (PID).
He urged everyone to be aware of stopping food wastage alongside developing planned food habits.
The Food Minister also called upon the people to refrain from eating shiny and silky rice with low nutritional value.
He said millers put the rice in the machine 4-5 times to polish the rice, which removes nutrition elements. So, the people can get only carbohydrates by eating such rice, he added.
Besides, consumers unnecessarily purchase the polished rice at the higher price.
