Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested five members of a mugging gang, including its leader Sharif Hossain, from Tongi area of Gazipur.
The law enforcers made the arrests during raids on Thursday night.
Sharif, during interrogation, told the law enforcers that he had mugged around 50 mobile phones the same day.
Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Noman Ahmed of RAB-1 confirmed the matter on Friday.
RAB seized 50 mobile phones, a motorcycle, and Tk29,000 along with some other electronics items from their possessions.
The rest of the arrestees are Abdullah Babu, Shyamal Hossain Rabbi, Nasir Raj and Sajedul Alam Shaon.
The RAB official said they had arrested seven members of another gang from Tongi area on October 5. Based on information gleaned from the gang, RAB conducted the raid.
