UK Envoy: Free, fair, and credible election important for Bangladesh

The high commissioner made the remark while briefing reporters after inaugurating The Welcome Skills International School of Hospitability Monday afternoon

UK High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Chatterton Dickson has said free, fair, and credible elections are very important for Bangladesh, particularly when considering the country’s graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status.

The high commissioner made the remark while briefing reporters after inaugurating The Welcome Skills International School of Hospitability Monday afternoon.

Regarding the school, he said: “The UK is providing world class education. Currently, 15,000 Bangladeshi students are studying in the UK.” 

Welcome Skills International School of Hospitality has been launched in expatriate-oriented Sylhet with the aim of training and educating students to a high level of excellence and competence in the global hospitality industry, according to various sources. 

Speaking as the chief guest at the launch event, the high commissioner said the training provided by Welcome Skills would enable more Bangladeshis to find rewarding work in the fast-growing global tourism and hotel industries.

He added that Sylheti people are playing an important role in the UK Curry industry, and a skilled workforce is needed for overall development.

Welcome Skills Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and founder Kulsum Hussin said the school will provide the skills, experience, and qualifications students required to have a global career in hospitality.

Head of Training Garry Faellery and Head of Recruitment Faijal Hossain also spoke at the event, among others.
