A young man was sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in Rajshahi for trying to rape a three-year-old child.
The accused is Mamun, 25, a resident of Puthia upazila in the district.
Rajshahi Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 Judge Md Hasanuzzaman passed the verdict on Monday afternoon.
According to the prosecution, the accused was detained by locals when he tried to rape a three-year-old child. When the child’s mother was searching for her, she heard screams from Mamun’s house. Later, she saw Mamun trying to rape her daughter. She screamed, gathered locals and rescued the child.
The victim was sent to the OCC Centre of Rajshahi Medical College (Ramek) Hospital. Later, police arrested Mamun and a case was filed by the victim’s father with Puthia police station.
Confirming the matter, Nasreen Akter Nipa, public prosecutor of the court, said that the accused pleaded guilty at the court.
