About 64% of critically ill dengue patients died this year within three days of hospitalization, health officials have said.

"So far a total of 48 out of 75 patients, about 64%, died within three days of hospitalization this year," Additional Director General (Administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Ahmadul Kabir told a press briefing on the dengue situation in the conference room of the DGHS on Thursday.

He said some 18 patients had died between three and six days of hospital admission, six within six to nine days, and three within nine to thirty days.

Mirpur, Uttara, Mugda, Jatrabari, Dhanmondi and Mohammadpur in Dhaka had been identified as dengue hotspots, Kabir said, adding that the second highest number of cases had been detected in Cox's Bazar, after Dhaka.
