PM Hasina to inaugurate 100 bridges in October

Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate 100 bridges across the country sometime this month, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Monday.

“The people are waiting for the inauguration of 100 bridges at a time. We want a date from the PMO at the end of this month for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to inaugurate all these bridges together,” Quader, who is also Awami League general secretary, said during the virtual inauguration of the Madhumati and Nasim Osman bridges from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

“We are waiting for that happy moment when the prime minister will hand over 100 bridges to the people of Bangladesh as gifts,” he added.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was present as the chief guest at the inauguration. 

Regarding the inauguration of the Bangabandhu tunnel, the first underwater tunnel in South Asia which runs under the Karnaphuli river in Chittagong, Quader said the government was hopeful of opening the tunnel by the end of the year.

“The main construction has been completed, there are some minor works of the long-awaited tunnel that are ongoing. We are hopeful that our leader will inaugurate it soon,” said the Road Transport and Bridges minister.

The two newly inaugurated bridges will play an important role in the development of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina said during the inauguration.
