Two more readymade garment (RMG) factories in Bangladesh have been accredited as green factories by the US Green Building Council (USGBC).
Among these, Aman Textile Limited of Gazipur and Ayesha Fashion Limited in Dhaka, said Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Director Mohiuddin Rubel.
Aman Textile Limited got 89 points in the platinum category, while Ayesha Fashion got 64 points in the gold category, he added.
With this, the total number of eco-friendly factories in the country's clothing sector has reached 173, reports Bangla Tribune.
These green factories help cut down operational costs significantly in the long run, even though setting up such facilities might cost more initially.
According to BGMEA, green factories are said to help cut down energy use by 40% and water consumption by more than 30% and also emit less carbon dioxide which further ensures environmental safety.
These buildings also ensure a safe workplace for workers as the factory owners have to follow certain rules for the construction of the buildings.
