The government will set the prices of nine essential commodities in line with the prices in the international market within seven days, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said.
The minister was speaking to reporters after an event at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Friday.
The move was aimed at curbing unethical business practices, Tipu Munshi said.
The Directorate of National Consumers Right Protection and other government agencies were monitoring the local market, he said, adding that the Bangladesh Tariff Commission had been tasked to fix fair prices for daily essentials in accordance with the global market.
Noting that eggs had become costlier, the minister said the government would price them reasonably keeping in mind the cost of poultry feed and transportation.
