The Establishing Digital Connectivity (EDC) project will play a key role in building digital infrastructure in the country, NM Zeaul Alam, senior secretary at the Information and Communication Technology Division (ICT), said on Wednesday.
The main objective of this project is to stretch the fibre optic connectivity to the village-level from the union-level.
Zeaul Alam was speaking, as the chief guest, at a seminar, titled “Role of Establishing Digital Connectivity (EDC) Project in the advancement of Smart Bangladesh”, said a press release.
Under the project, the government will establish 109,244 broadband and user connections, 10,000 digital labs, 57 specialized labs, a central cloud platform and frontier technology centre of excellence, IT infrastructure in district and upazila complexes and training facilities.
With the new IT infrastructure covering eight divisions, 64 districts and all upazilas, including union and village levels, the government wants to make its services accessible to the people in a quicker and easier manner by converting them into e-services.
Selima Khatun, former special assistant to the PM, spoke at the event as the guest of honour. The special guest of the program, EDC Project Director Dr Khandoker Azizul Islam briefed the media on the activities of project.
