A rape survivor rushed to a Barisal court on Sunday, threatening to commit suicide after the accused, a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader was granted bail.
The woman broke down in tears, threatening to set herself on fire and demanding justice.
The incident was reported from the Barisal divisional tribunal for Prevention of Repression against Women and Children at 11:30 am.
According to the plaintiff, she filed a case against the then president of Chhatra League’s Barisal metropolitan unit Jasim Uddin on April 22, 2021.
She had filed a case with Barisal airport police accusing him of tempting her with marriage and raping her several times.
An arrest warrant was issued against Jasim who is absconding.
According to the defendant’s lawyer Kazi Munir Hossain, Judge Yarab Hossain, granted the accused bail on a bail bond of Tk1,000.
Advocate Foyez Ahmed, the public prosecutor of the court declined to comment on the matter.
