The government will form an inquiry commission to find those who conspired to assassinate Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by the end of December this year, Law Minister Anisul Huq told parliament on Wednesday.

He made the remark during a discussion in the House on a proposal placed by Awami League lawmaker RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury.

The law minister added that the commission would be formed between December 16 and December 31.

Treasury bench lawmakers and lawmakers of the Jatiya Party lauded the visionary and historic role of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in liberating the country.

Lawmakers from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) did not participate in the discussion.

Awami League lawmaker and former state minister for liberation war affairs minister AB Tajul Islam said BNP founder Ziaur Rahman was directly involved in the assassination of Bangabandhu, and Zia’s family members should not be allowed to live in Bangladesh as a result.

Workers Party of Bangladesh president Rashed Khan Menon demanded the formation of a national inquiry commission to uncover the nature of the conspiracy to kill Bangabandhu.

A total of 24 lawmakers, including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, participated in the five-hour long discussion.
