Update : 23 Aug 2022, 06:02 PM

Around 45 bhori of gold jewellery were stolen from former Additional Inspector General of Police Khandaker Mozammel Haque's house in Dhaka late on Monday night.

The thieves reportedly cut open a window grill of his house in the New Eskaton area and stole the ornaments.

On Tuesday morning, the residents of the house discovered that the ornaments had been stolen.

Ramna Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

SI Asaduzzaman said that in the morning when the house help went to clean the house, she saw the grill was cut open and informed everyone in the house.

He added that the residents were not always home.

According to the police, no arrests have been made so far in the case but they are monitoring CCTV footage.

Mitali Hossain, wife of the former IGP, said: "My husband and I live on the ground floor of the duplex house while my children live upstairs. They weren't home last night. About 45 bhori gold ornaments were stolen from my daughter’s room.”

“Since my daughter was not home, the door to her room was locked. However this morning we saw that the grill was cut from the window and the lock on her cupboard was broken,” she further added.

Ramna Police said they are filing a case in this regard.
