A Brahmanbaria court ordered the former vice president of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) Nurul Haque Nur to appear before the court within seven working days.
Brahmanbaria Senior Judicial Magistrate Begum Arefin Ahmed Happy gave the order on Thursday, following a case filed by Brahmanbaria District Chhatra League President Rabiul Hossain Rubel on December 20, 2020.
According to the case statement, on December 16, that year Nur went live on Facebook and made derogatory remarks on Election Commission, the government and other affiliated organizations.
Nur also made indecent comments about Rabiul Hossain Rubel, while saying Awami League was not following in Father of the Nation Bangabandhu’s footsteps.
Police submitted a report to the court after two years of investigation, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Brahmanbaria Sadar model police station Md Imran Hossain.
“If the accused does not appear before court within the next seven working days, an arrest warrant will be issued against him as per the law, said District Lawyers Association General Secretary Mofizur Rahman Babul.
On June 14, 2020, a Digital Security Act (DSA) was filed against Nurul Haque Nur for making derogatory remarks about Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nowfel and the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at an event organized by the Bangladesh Students Rights Council.
Nur is currently serving as the member secretary to the Bangladesh Gono Adhikar Parishad, a political party that was launched in October 2021.
