Mild heatwave likely to sear parts of Bangladesh

Rain likely to bring momentary relief from scorching heat in several divisions

The ongoing mild heatwave is likely to continue in three districts of the country, said a Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) bulletin valid for 24 hours from 9am on Saturday.

A mild heatwave is sweeping over Jessore, Kushtia and Satkhira, and it may continue, said the bulletin.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty or squally wind is also likely to occur at many places in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at a few places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions, with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places across the country, it added.

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged.

The highest temperature on Friday was recorded at 36.6°C in Jessore, while the lowest temperature on Saturday was 25.0°C in Rangpur.

The highest rainfall in the 24 hours to 6am on Saturday was recorded at 94mm in Rangpur.

The sun will set at 6.43pm on Saturday and rise at 5.27am on Sunday in the capital.
