A Dhaka court on Wednesday sentenced Khandker Jahidur Rahman, a former field officer of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa), to four years imprisonment and fined him Tk50,000 in a case lodged over taking Tk2,00,000 as bribe.
Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-9 pronounced the judgment in presence of the convict.
The court then sent the convict to jail with conviction warrant.
The court also ordered authorities concerned to return Tk2,00,000 as bribe to Ashek Sadek Chowdhury, the complainant in the case.
Khandker Jahidur Rahman demanded the bribe from Ashek Sadek of Uttarkhan in Dhaka for regularizing the bill for a deep tube well in 2018.
Chowdhury informed the matter to the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) and the anti-graft body on June 26, 2018, and caught Rahman red-handed while receiving the bribe money.
The ACC lodged the case with Uttara East police station on the same day and filed a charge sheet on October 30, 2018
