BGB deployed in Tangail ahead of UP polls

Four union council polls in Tangail on Wednesday

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) troops have been deployed in the four unions in Tangail where the Union Parishad polls are scheduled to take place on Wednesday. 

The UP polls will take place in Kakua, Katuli, Chilimpur and Mahmudnagar unions of Tangail sadar upazila.

According to district election commission sources, additional forces have been deployed as 29 out of the 39 polling centres at the unions are considered risky. 

Two BGB platoons, four judicial magistrate, eight executive magistrate, 39 Presiding Officers, 242 assistant Presiding Officer, and six teams of RAB will be working to ensure that the polls are conducted smoothly. 

Tangail district election officer AHM Kamrul Hassan said that all the preparations for the election have been completed and an adequate amount of law enforcers have been deployed as well. 

Superintendent of Tangail Police Sharkar Mohammad Kaysar said that 490 police officers have been deployed to make the election fair and peaceful. 

A total of 76,445 voters will exercise their rights to franchise in the four unions from 8am to 4pm. 

As many as 21 aspirants are vying for the post of the chairman, 132 for the position of members and 47 for reserved seats.
