Road crashes kill 6 in Bangladesh

As many as five others were injured in the accidents

A total of six people were killed in separate accidents in Feni, Joypurhat, Chittagong and Gazipur districts on Friday.

In Feni, an auto-rickshaw driver and a woman passenger were killed when the vehicle was hit by a truck near Panchgachia on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Md Shakil, 20, from Momarispur village; and Jesmin Akter, 45, from Yakubpur village in Dagonbhuiyan upazila, Md Abdus Samad, officer-in-charge of Mohipal highway police station, told UNB.

“Besides, four other passengers of the auto-rickshaw sustained injuries in the accident. They were admitted to Feni General Hospital,” he added.

The accident occurred around 12pm when the Nokahali-bound truck collided with the auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite side on Feni-Noakhali regional highway, leaving two dead on the spot, said police.

The vehicles have been seized and legal actions will be taken in this regard, said the OC.

In Joypurhat, two people were killed and one other was injured in a collision between a truck and a charger van in Pachbibi upazila on Friday morning.

The deceased were identified as van driver Jiten Singh, 60, and Elias Hossain, 70, reports BSS.

OC of Pachbibi police Palash Chandra Deb said the accident occurred at Battoli in the upazila.

Jiten Singh and Elias Hossain died while undergoing treatment at Shaheed Zia Medical College and Hospital in Bogra, the OC added.

However, police seized the killer truck in the incident.

In Chittagong, a student was killed when he tried to stop a pickup that fleed away after hitting an auto-rickshaw in Mirsarai.

The accident took place at the Bariyarhat area on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Md Shakhawat Hossain, 15, son of Delwar Hossain of West Hinguli village of the upazila. 

Confirming the matter, Md Alamgir, in charge of Zorargonj Highway Police Station, said police seized the pickup and arrested its driver.

In Gazipur, a businessman was killed when he collided with the boundary wall of the cemetery while driving a motorcycle before purchasing it.

The incident took place at Chapulia intersection of Sadar police station in Gazipur city on Friday.

The deceased was identified as, Farooq Hossain, 52, son of late Omed Ali of Chak Datia area of Saghata upazila of Gaibandha.

Gazipur Metropolitan Sadar Police Station OC Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter.
