In the first 20 days of the inauguration of the Padma Bridge, a little over Tk52.55 tolls was collected at the toll plazas at both ends of the bridge.
The toll was collected from June 26 to July 15, Bangladesh Bridge Authority confirmed on Sunday.
According to BBA authorities, since the official opening of the Padma Bridge on June 26 till July 15, the toll collected on the bridge is Tk52 crore 55 lakh 35 thousand 650.
At this time 4,50,312 vehicles crossed through the Mawa and Zajira end.
As many as 2,19,896 vehicles crossed through Zajira border, accounting for Tk25.73 crore toll.
Meanwhile, the Tk26.81 crore toll was collected from the Mawa end, with 2,30,416 vehicles crossing through.
Abul Hossain, executive engineer of the bridge department, said: “The traffic pressure on the Padma bridge was high during Eid. The bridge department has successfully handled that pressure.”
“The Eid pressure lasted till Saturday. Now there are slightly more cars than usual. The toll collection is fast. Our toll collection capacity has increased since earlier,” he added.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the bridge on June 25 and the bridge was opened to the public on July 26.
In the last 20 days, the highest toll of a little more than Tk3.16 crore was collected on July 1 with 26,398 vehicles crossing the bridge.
