Two bulls named after the Padma Bridge have as become a sensation at cattle market in Naogaon with their unique name and high price.
One of the bull named Shetu Dhaka TribuneThe owner Mamunur Rashid Liton of Dariapur village of Mathurapur union under Badalgachhi upazila named his two large bulls Padma and Shetu.
Liton is demanding Tk25 lakh for the duo. The black colored Padma weighs 33 maund while the red Shetu weighs 30 maund.
Many people are visiting the cattle market just to witness these two sacrifical animals for their unique name.
Liton said he bought a 6-month-old black bull for Tk 60,000 and a red bull for Tk 65,000 from Panchbibi Hat in Joypurhat around two years ago.
Liton claimed he had to spend Tk1,500 per day for these two bulls maintenance and food. An estimated amount of Tk 8-9 lakh has been spent for these two bulls in the last two years.
After the inauguration of the Padma Bridge on June 25, family members and locals named the two cows Padma and Shetu, he said.
The price of these two bulls has gone up to Tk 18 lakh so far.
According to the District Livestock Department, around 433,000 cattle are available at the farm and individual level in Naogaon district ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Last year, 225,000 animals were sacrificed in the district while it is estimated that more than 300,000 animals will be sacrificed in the district this time.
