Another probe body formed over Biman aircraft accident

On Monday, a three-member inquiry committee, led by the chief of Flight Safety, was formed over the incident

The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism has formed an investigation committee into the incident of two Biman Bangladesh Airlines planes colliding at the hangar of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry Mahidul Islam will be leading the four-member committee, said a press release on Tuesday.

The committee has been asked to submit an investigation report within seven working days.

The members of the committee include Joint Secretary of the Ministry (Biman and CA) Nazrul Islam Sarkar, Deputy Director of Civil Aviation Authority Abdul Quader, Biman Bangladesh Airlines Deputy General Manager Anwar Hossain.

On Monday, another three-member inquiry committee, led by the Chief of Flight Safety Captain Enamul Haque Talukder, has been asked to submit a report.

The probe body has been directed to determine the cause of the accident and the amount of financial loss by identifying the officials or employees responsible. 

They were also ordered to formulate specific recommendations to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.

Earlier, two aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines collided again at the hangar of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), for the fourth time in less than three months.

The right wing of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner hit the left wing of Boeing 737 when workers were taking the first plane into the hangar for maintenance on Sunday night.

It had just arrived from Singapore, said Biman spokesperson Tahera Khandaker.

On June 4, a runway baggage cart of US-Bangla Airlines hit a Boeing 737 of Biman, damaging the aircraft.

On April 10, Two planes of the national flag carrier were grounded for several days after a similar collision at an airport hanger.
