A BRTC bus wrecked two barriers of the Padma Bridge toll plaza on Sunday, the first day of the bridge opening to traffic.
The incident took place at about 2:30pm at Mawa toll point.
However, the toll plaza officials declined to make any comment in this regard.
The toll plazas of the bridge opened for vehicles at 5:45am on Sunday.
Meanwhile, within about 8.5 hours since the toll plazas opened on both side a toll of nearly Tk48,00,000 had been collected, Tofazzal Hossain, supervising engineer of Bangladesh Bridge Authority told Dhaka Tribune at about 5:30pm.
He said a total toll of Tk 46,89,750 has been collected from Mawa on Sunday. Of these, 4,966 motorcycles, 1652 jeeps and cars, 286 pickups, 738 microbuses, three minibuses, 449 medium buses, 149 large buses, 78 trucks up to 11 tons, a four axle and a six axle have been crossed.
Tolls were collected at five of the seven toll booths set up at Mawa Point of the bridge. There are two lanes for freight trucks, one lane for motorcycles and one lane for private vehicles.
