As many as 49,417 families in Tangail are still marooned despite the water levels at Jamuna River going down.
Around 6,300 hectares of cropland was inundated as several low-lying areas in six upazilas were flooded, according to the agriculture department.
The Deputy Commissioner’s office said that around 67.75 square kilometers of land has been flooded in the district.
According to the Water Development Board Jamuna is flowing 52cm above danger mark but the water level has decreased by 5cm on Thursday morning.
The water levels of Jhinai river at Jokchar point and Pungli river dropped, 3cm and flowed 59cm above danger mark.
On the other hand, the water level at Dhaleshwari increased 8cm and currently flowing 33cm above danger mark, while the water level at Bangshai is flowing barely below the danger mark, having increased by 8cm.
WDB Executive Engineer Serajul Islam said that in some places river erosion has also occurred.
Tangail Deputy Commissioner Ataul Gani said that the UNOs have been instructed to stand by those affected by floods.
Adequate relief has been allocated and medical teams have been formed, he said adding that the superintendent of police has been instructed to ensure security in the flood-affected areas.
