The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has requested all government and non-government organizations and all people concerned to prevent environmental pollution through properly sacrificing animals and removing the remains of in compliance with hygienerules.
The request was made at an inter-ministerial meeting on sacrificial animal waste management held at the ministry’s conference room on Tuesday on the occasion of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Azha, said a ministry press release.
In the meeting, people were requested to slaughter animals at a specific place and to throw the remains of slaughtered animals in the dustbin or to bury them properly.
The speaker and participants at the meeting stressed on using eco-friendly bags for removal of sacrificial waste or distribution of meat, the release added.
It was decided at the meeting that 4,00,000 copies of leaflets would be distributed nationwide through the city corporations, municipalities, divisions of environment department and district offices, district administrations and other organizations including district information offices to create public awareness.
The Department of Environment will take steps to reach out to the public through text messages and Islamic Foundation will also distribute awareness leaflets, said the release.
The ministry officials urged the imams of mosques to speak at the Jumma prayers on what to do for keeping the environment clean.
Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar as well as private channels were requested to broadcast the message regarding the proper removal of sacrificial animal waste.
Secretary of the Ministry Dr Farhina Ahmed virtually presided over the meeting.
The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary (Administration) of the Ministry Iqbal Abdullah Harun, Additional Secretary (Climate Change) Md Moniruzzaman, Additional Secretary (Environment) Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik, Director General of the Department of Environment Dr Abdul Hamid and representatives of various ministries and agencies.
