At least 25 people, including 12 police officials, were injured in a clash when police tried to stop a blockade at Chitalmari police station in Bagerhat on Monday.

Inspector SM Ashraful Alam of Bagerhat Police Media Cell told Dhaka Tribune that a student made a Facebook post “hurting religious sentiment”. The 18-year-old girl was detained on Sunday night.

Following the incident, a group of people brought out a procession and headed towards the police station, demanding trial of the student.

During the clash, the protesters threw bricks and vandalized two police vans, four motorcycles and windows of the police station.

Police fired bullets to disperse the demonstrators, Ashraful said.

The police officer said the girl denied giving such post on Facebook, adding that somebody hacked her Facebook ID and did it.

At least 12 people were held for their alleged involvement in the incident.
