In his budget speech for the fiscal year 2022-23 in Parliament on Thursday, Mustafa Kamal proposed to give the opportunity to display the money smuggled out of the country in the income tax return.
“If a taxpayer owns an asset outside Bangladesh and that asset does not appear in the income tax return, he will have the opportunity to do so by paying a fixed tax in the next financial year,” he observed.
The minister proposed to levy tax at the rate of 15% on immovable property acquired abroad, 10% on immovable property abroad and on cash remitted to Bangladesh.
