Narayanganj city mayor Selina Hayat Ivy has sought Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's intervention in beginning the Tanvir Muhammad Twaki murder case trial.
Tanvir Mohammad Twaki’s body was found on the banks of the Shitalakhya River in Narayanganj on March 8, 2013. However, the trial in the case has yet to start as police have not yet finished their investigation.
The mayor said: “I request you to take measures so that we get justice for the murder of our child. You are wise, you know what to do.”
Ivy was speaking at a program in Narayanganj on Monday to mark the ninth year of Twaki murder.
The mayor said that the people of the port city and the entire country knew why there had been no headway into the investigation of the murder.
Since Twaki’s father is an ordinary person, therefore, the family is being ignored by the system, she added.
Pointing to Narayanganj MP Shamim Osman, Ivy said that he had sought justice for Twaki while he knew who was behind the murder. She alleged that the murderers were from Shamim Osman’s house. Ivy also challenged Shamim Osman, saying that if he really meant what he said then he should hand over the people who killed Twaki to the police.
Seventeen-year-old Twaki was abducted from Bangabandhu Road in Narayanganj on March 6, 2013. His father filed a general diary at Narayanganj Sadar model police station in this connection later that night.
His body was found on the banks of the Shitalakhya River two days later. Rabbi on March 8, 2013 filed a murder case accusing unidentified persons.
