Agriculture Minister and Awami League Presidium Member Dr Abdur Razzaque on Saturday said the government is strictly monitoring the international market as they are trying to import edible oil to meet the domestic market demand.
He said the price of edible oil has gone up sharply in the international market. “We have to meet the demand by importing edible oil,” he said.
In such a case, no importer wants to import goods unless the prices are adjusted locally, he added.
Razzaque made the remarks while speaking to reporters in Tangail on Saturday.
The minister claimed that the price of coarse rice in the country is stable, while the price of fine rice is still on the higher side.
“We must remember that in the last two years, the farmers in the developed countries did not cultivate due to the pandemic,” he said.
“The Ukraine-Russia war has its implications too. All this has affected Bangladesh as well,” the minister said.
Razzaque said the BNP is trying to create anarchy and instability in the country just like it did in 2014.
They think that they will come back to power by creating instability, and anarchy, hindering the development progress in the country, he said.
The minister said the BNP has no ground under their feet to carry out a movement. “They have not been able to go on a strike since 2015. There will never be another strike in Bangladesh. If cars are set on fire in the name of movement, they will have to pay the ultimate price,” Razzaque said.
The agriculture minister said the BNP had always come to power by hatching conspiracies. The Awami League, on the other hand, has never come to power through unlawful means.
Therefore, no one will be allowed to sabotage the elections by conspiring in Bangladesh in the coming days, he said.
“If the BNP wants to come to power, they will have to come to the polls. If the people elect them, we will gladly step aside and welcome them,” Razzaque added.
