Update : 28 Feb 2022, 02:59 PM

Newly appointed Election Commissioner Anisur Rahman has said that he will abide by the law of the land in discharging his duties.

“I will try and work for the EC by following the law of the land and the powers given to me by the constitution,” he said while talking to Bangla Tribune on Saturday.

“The EC is not formed by one person, so we (election commissioners) will have discussions amongst ourselves before taking any decision, and prioritize our steps accordingly after we take our oaths,” he added.

President Abdul Hamid on Saturday constituted the new Election Commission (EC), appointing retired senior secretary Kazi Habibul Awal as the chief election commissioner (CEC).

The president also appointed Anisur Rahman and three others as election commissioners.

Anisur Rahman was born on December 31, 1962 in Shariatpur. During his career, he served in various roles, including as assistant commissioner, upazila magistrate and UNO.

He also served as an acting secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in 2017.

Anisur holds a bachelor's and master's degree from Dhaka University’s Department of Geology.
