Legal actions will be taken against those involved in the murder of Jamalpur journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim, regardless of party affiliation, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said.
He said that justice will be served, and trials against the accused will not be affected by party affiliation.
The road transport and bridges minister made the comments after inspecting a BRT project in Gazipur on Saturday.
“If a charge sheet is filed then the accused will not have any post in Awami League as well,” he added.
Earlier on Saturday morning, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained Babu in Chilahati union of Debiganj upazila, Panchagarh.
On Friday, the Awami League suspended Sadhurpara UP Chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu from the party.
Nadim, the Jamalpur district correspondent of Banglanews24.com, was attacked on the night of June 14 in Bokshiganj and was brutally beaten by unidentified assailants.
Up to 15 people, allegedly led by UP Chairman Babu, attacked Nadim in the Paathaati Mor area when he was returning home on a motorbike after work.
He died of a severe brain haemorrhage on Thursday morning at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Nadim was buried at his family graveyard in Gomer Char village after two funeral prayers on Friday.
So far, 10 people have been arrested over the murder of the journalist. The arrestees are followers of Sadhurpara UP Chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu.
