Government using state power to harass democracy-loving people, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi says

Update : 09 Jun 2023, 11:12 PM

Referring to Law Minister Anisul Huq's announcement that no government agency will file cases to harass anyone ahead of the national election, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed has said it proves that the government usually files cases with that very intent.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed was addressing a press conference organized at the BNP central office in Naya Paltan of the capital on Friday.

The BNP leader said the law minister's words prove that the cases against BNP leaders and activists and prominent people who gave opinions against the government over the last 15 years are completely false and harassing, only filed for physical and mental abuse.

He said this “illegal” government is using the power of the state to harass democracy-loving people only to stay in office.

Rizvi also mentioned that in the last 15 years, the ruling Awami League has accused over 5 million BNP leaders and activists, including BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and acting chairman Tarique Rahman, in 150,000 “false” cases.

He also claimed that Khaleda Zia was given prison sentences as acts of revenge and that she had to involvement in those cases.
